Hidden tricks & tips to master Windows 10

Tips to improve your Windows 10 experience

For a while now, many of us have had Windows 10 on our PCs. We are used to the new features of the operating system from daily use. But whether you are using the existing PC or upgraded to a new device, you might find it useful to learn some of the tricks that Microsoft has hidden underneath the hood. There are certain tips and tricks that students of Top Engineering Colleges in Rajasthan should use to improve your Windows 10 experience.

Access a start menu for power users

Windows 10 has a hidden Start Menu that contains some useful tools for Windows power users like the task manager, command prompt, device and disk management, and others. To get to this menu, students of btech colleges will need to either right click the Windows button or use the Windows key+X shortcut on your keyboard.

Sniff out disk space-hoarding apps

A useful feature of both iOS and Android allows you to monitor the amount of disk space that your apps are taking up. Microsoft introduced a similar tool in the Settings app of Windows 10. To find it, you have to first click on Settings, then on the System, then Storage. With this, an individual will be able to sort by drive and search for specific apps by file name so that they can figure out which apps are taking up the most space.

Minimize all windows except the active one

The “Show Desktop” function has been used since Windows 95. There was no way to just minimize all windows except the one they are looking at. In Windows 10, you will need to grab the window by its title bar and give it a shake. All inactive windows will minimize.

Stop background apps from running

Another mobile OS-borrowed feature shows options within Settings that can control the apps running in the background. If students of the list of engineering colleges are tethering their laptop to a mobile hotspot with a data cap, it can save them a lot of headaches and wasted data to conserve a little battery life, too. To choose what apps they would like to allow to run, go to the Settings app, then Privacy, then Background Apps. It will help you to see a list of installed apps, and they can decide which ones can run in the background.

Become a Start Menu power user

Start Menus become expanded with the addition of more and more applications to our PCs, but that does not mean that the process of finding and opening the app you want has to slow down. After opening the Start Menu, click “All Apps.” An individual will see letters that they can click on; click the first letter of the name of the app they are looking for, and the app should appear in the tiles to the right. To be more specific, they can even search for apps from the search box, too.

Print to PDF

The print to PDF feature of Google Chrome is the most popular among the students of Engineering Colleges in Jaipur. Also, it has been a staple of Google’s alternative browser, and users of OS X have also enjoyed it natively across the operating system for quite some time. Today in Windows 10, “Print to PDF” is a native option for the entire operating system. They can access this from any print dialog.

Know these new useful keyboard shortcuts

Some companies provide a list of new keyboard shortcuts which will make navigating Windows 10 much easier. Each one of them uses the Windows Key plus an additional key or two. It includes Windows Key-Tab (Task View), Windows Key-Up and Down (snap apps to top or bottom of screen or maximizes), Windows Key-Right-Up (moves app to top right quadrant), Windows Key-Ctrl-Left or Right (scrolls between virtual desktops), Windows Key-Shift-C (Cortana listening), Windows Key-Ctrl-D (creates a new virtual desktop), Windows Key-Ctrl-F4 (closes virtual desktop), Windows Key-S (Daily Glance for weather, news, sports) or more.

New trackpad gestures

Microsoft has made a combined effort in Windows 10 to bring the trackpad gestures that users have grown accustomed to with OS X. If an individual is a Mac user, then all the gestures they are used to like pinching to zoom or using two fingers to scroll up and down. It will work similarly in Windows 10.

In addition to those gestures, there are a few added gestures that are specific to Windows 10. Swipe three fingers up to see the task view; to the left acts like Alt-Tab, and down accesses the desktop. Tapping three fingers on the trackpad brings up Cortana along with the Action Center.

Virtual Desktop

Students of best btech colleges India can create virtual desktop. They do not need to install any application or software. If their computer has Windows 10 installed, they can easily create virtual desktop. For this, they have to click on the window + tab simultaneously. It will opens the option “New desktop” , clicking on it will create a new virtual desktop.

Dynamic Lock

The user can pair or connect their mobile with their laptop or desktop using dynamic lock. While leaving their laptop or desktop and forget to lock, they must disconnect or unpair mobile with laptop or desktop. With this, their laptop will be locked automatically.
