How engineers can help reduce unnecessary plastic pollution?

Ways technologies are helping beat plastic pollution

With the passage of time, the dependence of humanity on plastic grows. It is lightweight, flexible, inexpensive, and durable. It uses in everything from grocery bags to 3D printed rocket nozzles. Plastic retains some of the most attractive qualities in any material.

How long does it take for plastics to biodegrade?

Petroleum-based plastic does not biodegrade with the rest of the organic material mixed in with garbage. Bacteria break down the organic waste into other useful compounds. However, bacteria would not decompose plastic. Due to this, anyone can believe that plastic will never biodegrade.

In fact, all the plastic that has been produced since its invention is still around today. Almost everything we touch is made of plastic. Humans have already produced 8.3 billion metric tons of plastic in whole and production is set to increase.

New symbols for recycling

The challenge of recycling for the students of Engineering Colleges was to design a symbol in 3D CAD that connects people to waste. However, the multi-dimensional symbol illuminates a multi-dimensional problem that requires multi-dimensional solutions. The symbol includes mounting holes in the back, so it can be hung on a wall.

It reminds them that the waste is a multi-dimensional problem and seeing and feeling a representation of the trash created daily will help them to think more globally. Everyone needs to forego immediate gratification if they ensure the long-term survival of the Earth.

How to eliminate single-use plastic?

The easiest way to eliminate single-use plastic in the future is to stop buying plastic products featuring any plastic at all. Currently, the government of India has completely restricted the use of single-use plastic in different places. In respect to this, they claimed that “The legislation is not just about banning single-use plastic products. It also wants to make plastic producers bear the cost of waste management and cleanup efforts. It proposes that the majority of states must collect 90% of single-use plastic bottles in the coming years through new recycling programs.

The technologies eliminating plastic

Despite maintaining nearly sturdy properties, new technologies develop to repurpose and reuse plastics while other technologies are becoming able to decompose plastics entirely.

Companies are finding ways to transform plastic waste into new products. It will significantly increase the usable lifespan of plastic. On the other hand, it simultaneously reduces the need for new plastics and removing some that already exists within the world.

Plastic may last decades or longer in the environment; typically, most plastic use for minutes before getting discard. Specifically, plastic bottles use and throw out long before their usable life is up. The bottles carelessly toss away and are rarely recycled. Research conduct by the professionals of Top Engineering Colleges says that humans are producing and consuming a million bottles a minute, and the annual consumption only expects to increase by 20% to half a trillion bottles a year by 2021.

Plans for environmental standards

The federal government has made some plans for plastic products. However, they will ask e-commerce companies to cut back on plastic packaging that makes up nearly 40% of India’s annual plastic consumption.

Cheap Smartphone and a surge in the number of internet users have boosted orders for e-commerce companies like Amazon.com Inc and Walmart Inc’s Flipkart. It wraps their wares from books and medicines to cigarettes and cosmetics in plastic by pushing up consumption.
