Common Admission Test commonly known as CAT is a national level MBA entrance exam conducted by IIMs. The admission test is taken as a entrance criteria by over 150 B-schools in India, admissions happen on basis of CAT scores. CAT is a computer based test and is conducted online. It is a pre-requisite test for students pursuing their post graduation degree.

  • CAT Eligibility Criteria: The applicants must be graduates in any discipline from a renowned university with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate. For the ST, SC, OBC and DA category applicants, the lowest aggregate marks to be gained are 45%. The final year graduation scholars can also apply.
  • CAT Selection Process: The applicants are selected by their B-schools through the CAT scores followed by a Group Discussion (GD), Personal Interview (PI) and Written Ability Test (WAT). On the basis of the CAT cut off marks, the students are shortlisted by the B-schools. Since the last couple of years, few reputed technology institutes have made it a standard practice for the final admission.
  • CAT Exam Pattern: CAT is a computer based objective type multiple choice questions test. It has 2 sections, Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation and Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning. The total duration of the test is 2 hours 20 minutes. Each part gets 70 minutes. The total number of questions asked is around 60 to 30 questions in each segment. The first part that appears on screen is Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation and after 70 minutes, the section will automatically switch to the second section, the Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning.
Besides, there are other entrance tests as XAT, CMAT, MAT and so on for under graduate and post graduate students.
